Arthur Blythe was part of The Underground Musicians and Artists Association (AACM of west coast) in the mid-60's. He played with Gil Evans, Lester Bowie, Jack DeJohnette, McCoy Tyner, etc.
"Lenox Avenue Breakdown", composition of the alto saxophonist, was released for the first time in 1979 (LP on Comlumbia), and reached the N° 35 position on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart... It's a reference recording of modern jazz !
